the burner, suddenly a fragile colored glass tube begins to inflate,
acquiring bizarre outlines. Only the Master knows what it will be, he
carefully ensures that the guests do not overdo it, he knows exactly
when and where to make an effort to get what he intended – a trunk
of a spreading tree, a crocodile muzzle, or a female figure. This goes
on from dawn to dusk, day after day, year after year. Turkish artisans
keep traditions sacred. This also applies to the tailor next door and
the owner of a unique coffee shop a stone’s throw away. For many
years they have been doing the same thing, and they do not seek to
change anything. And why? Craft is a path where there is no career
growth, except for the title of Master. And what could be higher
than this title? What could be more worthy of a craft? After all, this is
how a person declares himself to the world – who am I? Why me?
The one who came to create and whose works will remain in the
world after you. And people respect you for your work and your
creativity – isn’t that happiness?
Uncle Hamid’s figurines travel from sunny Alanya all over the
world. This is probably the most numerous glass menagerie and a

of Alanya. It is simply impossible not to visit it if
you happen to be in the center. This is a giant
Ebazaar consisting of many pavilions, coffee shops,
restaurants, ateliers, and similar places that create a unique flavor of
Turkish cities. It’s easy to get lost here, especially for a newly arrived
tourist – everything is bright, lively, noisy, and interesting. But there is
one special point in all this endless celebration of life. This point is the
workshop of the glassblower Hamid. The cheerful and hospitable host
invites the passing public to look at the unique show that takes place
on his workbench almost the whole working day – here, in front of
onlookers, the glass performs amazing metamorphoses, turning into
funny little animals, then into figures of spinning dervishes, then into
some understandable blanks for one Master. Moreover, the ease
with which Uncle Hamid works with glass creates the illusion that
anyone can master this skill easily. Yes, the master himself convinces
his guests of this. Hamid invites tourists passing by with a gesture –
please blow into this tube, it’s simple! – Easy!- And in the flame of
